Life

Hermann Braun was born on 1 November 1917 in New York (not 1918, as sometimes stated). His parents were the chamber singer Carl Braun and the actress Gertrude Botz; his sister was Anne-Mary Braun.

He worked in Berlin theatre and appeared in films from 1933 to 1941. After making critical remarks, he lost his exemption from military service (UK-Stellung / Unabkömmlichkeit) and was drafted. He later served on the Eastern Front and fell in January 1945 near Łódź / Litzmannstadt as a lieutenant (Leutnant).

Burial: German war cemetery Joachimów-Mogiły in Poland. An individual, named grave is not confirmed in available sources; a cenotaph or burial among the unidentified remains possible.
